Roger Dreyer, of Dreyer Babich Buccola Callaham & Wood, represented
Jennifer Strange, a 28 year old mother of three, was involved in a radio
station contest called "Hold your Wee for a Wii," sponsored by local
radio station 107.9, KDND, "The End." Strange drank nearly two gallons
of water in a three hour period, trying to win a Nintendo Wii gaming
console. Roger Dreyer, the lead attorney for Mrs. Strange's family, told
ABC's "Good Morning America," ""She acted based upon the information she
had," Dreyer said, calling the ruling "vindication for Jennifer." "We
believe that people are constantly told we should drink water."
The jury found in favor of the deceased woman's husband, Billy Strange,
and her family, awarding the family $16.5 million dollars for the
wrongful death of Jennifer Strange. After the verdict was rendered, Mr.
Dreyer said in an interview that this kind of verdict sends an important
message to media organizations across the nation: "If there's any
potential that people are going to be injured or dead, they're not going
to do it...they're just not going to do it. And what stronger message
could we possibly want than that?" Dreyer also said that he had gotten
assurances from Entercom's attorneys that there would be no appeal of
the verdict, and that they would promptly pay the agreed-upon
settlement.
